National School Picture Day returns on Thursday, September 11, 2025—a day set aside to honor the tradition of school photography and the millions of students and families who cherish it.
Why We Created It
Launched in 2019, National School Picture Day was created by Lifetouch and officially recognized by the National Day Calendar. For over 85 years, we’ve had the privilege of capturing smiles across North America—from preschool to senior year. This day is a celebration of those moments and the lasting memories they create.
“By graduation, students have a visual story of who they’ve become,” says the Lifetouch team. “Picture Day captures a full journey—each year a chapter, every photo a moment in time.”
From missing teeth to graduation caps, school pictures are a time capsule, and now there’s a day to celebrate them.
Why September?
The second Thursday in September was chosen because it’s the most popular week for Picture Days nationwide. In fact, we photograph more students during this week than any other time of year. It’s the perfect time to celebrate the start of the school year and the excitement that comes with Picture Day.
Memories That Matter
Danielle Jonas, jewelry designer and mother of two, helped us launch the first National School Picture Day in 2019.
“I have the best memories from school picture day as a kid,” she shared. “Now, with my daughters starting school, I’m excited to capture those same moments in a really special way.”
